General Summary: Under general supervision applies advanced skills in the machining, fabrication, and/or assembly of prototypes, component parts, spares, process equipment, etc.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Sets up and operates a variety of machining tools such as lathes, milling machines, and precision grinders to make parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
- Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines sequence of operations, and method of setup.
- Uses a variety of machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Makes standard shop computations, including trig, relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds.
- Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay-out stock for machining.
- Fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required. (Some machines may be numerically controlled.)
- Familiar with G&M, Conversational, FactoryTalk, or other NC programming software.
- Can work on previously programed CNC jobs under minor direction.
Abilities:
Mill and lathe experience, PC literate. Must be able to pass Hazardous Materials Training class.
Education/Experience:
High School Diploma/GED and apprenticeship or machine tool certification program.
Minimum 4 – 7 years related experience or combination of formal education and experience of which 3 years hands on experience is required and demonstrated proficiency.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to repeatedly push, pull and lift 40 lbs. From floor to above shoulders.
